The Department of Legal Medicine resumed performing forensic autopsies in 2007 and expanded its work in 2011, when a new forensic autopsy room was built in the Anatomy Center. In July 2015, Professor Mizukami became the sixth chair of the department and has been performing autopsies since then. We have been working in cooperation with the judicial branches of government, and performing about 60 to 70 forensic autopsy cases per year for Ishikawa Prefecture, as well as Toyama and Fukui Prefectures. Through our work we contribute to the judiciary, public health, and public welfare. Our current research themes are: Genetic analysis of drug metabolizing enzyme in persons with drug intake; Genetic analysis of sudden unexpected death and the elucidation of its onset mechanism; Study on the involvement of anaphylactoid reactions in amniotic fluid embolism.
